Staying relevant as a car for even a decade requires continuous reinvention to remain in tune with what drivers and families want. The Ford Explorer has done just that for over thirty years. Its latest iteration, the 2025 Ford Explorer, continues this tradition by revamping the cabin and adding new technology. The most significant change, however, is the simplified lineup, which has been cut from eight trims to just four.
2025 Ford Explorer Trims
1. Active
The new base trim is the Active, and it is a bit of a revelation. It’s got everything you need, plus a few nice touches. For starters, it’s got heated front seats, which is practically a luxury in an entry-level vehicle. You can get into this car on a chilly morning and feel immediately at home, not just settling for a basic commuter vehicle.
On top of that, it’s comfortable, easy to drive, roomy, and packs all the modern technology features you’d expect, including wireless Apple CarPlay and adaptive cruise control,
2. ST-Line
The next trim, the ST-Line, introduces a number of exterior and interior upgrades that make the Explorer more stylish and functional. Outside, it features a sportier grille, blacked-out skid plates, bodyside cladding (also black), 20-inch wheels, and unique treatment on the headlamps and taillamps. Inside, you’ll find heated second-row seats and red stitching throughout the cabin.
An interesting addition here is the BlueCruise, which, if equipped, takes the stress out of long drives by letting the car do the heavy lifting. You just have to sit back, relax, and let your ST-Line take the wheel on mapped highways. To make your journeys even more enjoyable, this model comes with a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
3. ST
The ST is the performance-oriented version of the 2025 Explorer. So, it boasts a more powerful engine (400-horsepower V6), a sports-tuned suspension, paddle shifters, and all-season tires.
In addition, it’s got power-folding outside mirrors, heated and cooled front seats, wireless charging, and a heated sport-inspired steering wheel. And let’s not forget about those striking red brake calipers, as they are a bold reminder of the mean machine the ST truly is.
4. Platinum
At the top of the range is the Platinum, the finest of the lot. It features all the trappings of high-end SUVs, including heated second-row seats, leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 14-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio system.
